🌧️ There is lots of inside space at El Rey so it’s a good place for to go when it’s raining.

EL Rey is quite a new restaurant in Estepona. It’s part of the same group as Casa Del Rey which has been in the town for many years and has a good reputation.

I’ve visited El Rey a few times and my experiences have been very good.

The service is friendly and efficient and the food is good. When you read the menu it’s hard to choose what to have as it all looks so tasty. One of the main problems is you’ll order too much.

They have a selection of beers on tap too, which is nice as it’s not something you see much in Estepona.

The one slight downside is that it is quite expensive, but this is to be expected due it’s location and style.

A very nice gastro bar. Certainly worth a visit!

The waiter was far too busy with his personal text messages v while we waited for service . Portions small and highly priced .

It wasn’t about food. Just mix with friends. It is worth visiting more often.

I had a mixed experience with my meal. I moved to Estepona in August for a job and I go out regularly to try to find restaurants to add to my list of places I enjoy visiting. If we’re talking dark meat then my two favorite things to eat so far in life are lamb chops or a well prepared horse steak. El Rey had lamb chops on the menu and judging by the price and the location of the restaurant, in the heart of the tourist area, I expected them to be delicious. They were not. Quite the opposite. I ordered them as anyone should, medium rare, only to be served these strange paper thin overcooked pieces of meat. I’ve never seen such thinly sliced lamb chops. I felt as if they were trying to fool me and they had sliced each chop lengthwise down the middle. I was not born yesterday nor did I begin dining out yesterday. I sat there obviously not touching my meal for twenty minutes and no one said anything to me. I finally waved down a server and explained the situation to him. Now, to their credit he did apologize, promptly bring the menu, and suggest something else I might actually like this time. I was brought a properly prepared medium rare steak and the meat was good. It had a LOT of sauce poured all over it. I didn’t expect that but I can live with sauce.

I did get a high five from the server when I ordered my drink. I guess a lot of people here ruin their delicious spiced rum by adding coke to it. I would never do such a thing.

There are many 5 star reviews of this place and my steak was okay. If you give it a chance, for the love of all things good, avoid the lamb chops.
