One of my new favourites! The Carrillera (pork cheek stew) is absolutely amazing!

At Doña Encarna you’ll find a traditional menu with both Tapas and Small plates. The service is friendly, the location is central, but not too busy and the prices are very reasonable.

If you’re looking for traditional Spanish, this is your place!

What we like

  • The traditional stews
  • Montaditos!
  • Good value for money
  • Lovely central locatio

What we don’t like

A lovely retreat below the castle, and sampled the small 4 Euro tapas and fine wine in the afternoon. Great service. The menu is extensive, but we are tryng to eat less but tasty , not easy for UK people ha ha

Site 10 out of 10. I hope it always stays that way.

Everything was perfect. Excellent service. They seated us, even though we didn’t have a reservation, without any fuss and with great kindness.
The food was fantastic. Potato salad with prawns, lemon anchovies, and hake.
We will definitely be back. Many thanks to all the staff.

We stumbled upon “Doña Encarna” by chance, looking for a tapas bar, and had actually planned to go somewhere else – but it wasn’t meant to be. A quick glance at the menu, some recommendations from the waiter, and presto, we found a cozy table right by the castle wall.

There were four of us, and we took the waiter’s (the owner’s?) Andalusian tapas recommendations to heart. Most of the dishes are also available in tapas-sized portions. An excellent “Tinto de Verano,” rosé wine, shandy, water, followed by coffee (which could have been a bit stronger and hotter) rounded off a lovely, enjoyable evening. The location in the heart of Estepona’s old town is perfect for those looking for a quiet spot for dinner. I must commend the outstanding service from both waiters – attentive, quick, and helpful – thank you so much! The value for money: very good; for four of us, just under €100 – fantastic value for this quality! I (or we) will definitely come back; I’d like to try the lunch menu. I wish you continued success! Muchas gracias.

The Food

Great value; delicious homemade Spanish cuisine is what you’ll find here.

I particularly love the stews and the montaditos.

They also have a good selection of meat dishes.

  • Good value for money
  • Great stews
  • Montaditos!
  • Served quickly

A great place for lunch or dinner.

The Location

Doña Encarna is situated in the old town right next to the castle. It’s easy to get to but away from the really busy parts of town.

There are lots of tables outside, but it’s often busy, especially in the summer.

  • Lovely location next to the castle
  • Lots of space outside, a bit of space inside.
  • Very easy to find, 1 minute from the beach and Plaza de las Flores

They are open every day, all afternoon and evening, apart from Monday.
