ℹ️ La Escollera gets very busy and they don’t accept reservations so make sure you arrive early. Whilst you’re waiting for a table you can get a drink and a tapas the wait is quite a pleasant experience.

🌧️ There is lots of inside space at La Escollera so it’s a good place for coffee, breakfast or lunch when it’s raining.

Editors Comment

La Escollera is part of Estepona history and culture. Legend has it that the restaurant started with a small fire and a bucket of fish and as the fishermen would return to the port it was freshly prepared and cooked right off the boat.

Today, it’s a popular place to get fresh fish and seafood. Every time I’ve visited, I’ve enjoyed the experience, and the food has been excellent.

It does get very busy, and you can’t book, however, you can get a tapas and drink while you wait.

A great experience for seafood lovers.

What we like

  • Delicious, fresh seafood
  • Unpretentious and authentic
  • Tapas and drinks whilst you wait
  • Vibrant atmosphere
  • Good service despite being very busy

What we don’t like

  • Very busy most of the time, so no good if you have limited time

We have eaten here twice. On our last visit we waited for over 40 minutes for a table. It was a Saturday and they were very busy.

Both times we got fish on the grill. Last time we had the Sea Bass, and it was enough to share because my husband and I both had the gaspacho, which was delicious 😋 and I would highly recommend and my husband had the pulpo salad, the fish was enough for 2.

Everything is always delicious 😋 and very fresh, my only negative comment is about the cost of the fish, which was half our bill and we have had fish at other places and it hasn’t been so pricey.

Aside from the expensive fish, I would highly recommend it and maybe next time have the very tasty gaspacho and a salad and not order fish.

We had read about this place in a guide book, but didn’t know exactly where it was in the marina. However, we persevered and eventually came across it far away from all the other restaurants.

Although it was obviously a busy lunchtime, we were lucky enough to grab a table out front fairly quickly.

We browsed the extensive menu and were helpfully guided by our lovely waitress in making our choice of pilpil prawns, calamari and fresh grilled sardines. Wow, everything arrived piping hot and in a very short time considering how busy they were. Fantastic fish at fabulous prices. If you love fresh fish and seafood then there’s only one place to go in Estepona, here.
