ℹ️ La Escollera gets very busy and they don’t accept reservations so make sure you arrive early. Whilst you’re waiting for a table you can get a drink and a tapas the wait is quite a pleasant experience.

🌧️ There is lots of inside space at La Escollera so it’s a good place for coffee, breakfast or lunch when it’s raining.

Editors Comment

La Escollera is part of Estepona history and culture. Legend has it that the restaurant started with a small fire and a bucket of fish and as the fishermen would return to the port it was freshly prepared and cooked right off the boat.

Today, it’s a popular place to get fresh fish and seafood. Every time I’ve visited, I’ve enjoyed the experience, and the food has been excellent.

It does get very busy, and you can’t book, however, you can get a tapas and drink while you wait.

A great experience for seafood lovers.

What we like

  • Delicious, fresh seafood
  • Unpretentious and authentic
  • Tapas and drinks whilst you wait
  • Vibrant atmosphere
  • Good service despite being very busy

What we don’t like

  • Very busy most of the time, so no good if you have limited time

Inconspicuous but with wonderful food. The octopus salad is mind-blowing.

The homemade desserts at the end are a true complement to the fish flavors.

Without a doubt, it must be one of the best places to eat!!! Both we and all our friends come to Estepona from different countries every year, and we NEVER miss La Escollera. On the contrary, it’s the first thing we plan to do when we plan our vacation. It’s not for nothing that we have to wait so long for a table, and no one ever gets tired; you just wait with the certainty that it’s worth it! The quality and price are 100,000%.

The worst part is waiting to get a table.

We had a great meal, everything was delicious and the service was very fast. The only thing is that you have to go early because it is very busy and they don’t make reservations, we waited in line for 2 hours.

The Food

La Escollera is the place for fresh fish and seafood that’s well prepared.

The day’s catch is on display over ice and you choose what you’d like.

  • Large selection of fish
  • Seafood prepared in a variety of ways
  • Good wine selection
  • Choice of salads

If you’re not into fish then La Escollera is probably not the restaurant for you.

The Location

La Escollera is located in the port right next to the fish market,

Outside the front of the restaurant are tables for when you’re waiting and lots of seating is inside.

At the rear is outside terrace seating with views of the sea.

  • In Estepona port in the heart of the fishing community.
  • Lots of space both inside and out

We had read about this place in a guide book, but didn’t know exactly where it was in the marina. However, we persevered and eventually came across it far away from all the other restaurants.

Although it was obviously a busy lunchtime, we were lucky enough to grab a table out front fairly quickly.

We browsed the extensive menu and were helpfully guided by our lovely waitress in making our choice of pilpil prawns, calamari and fresh grilled sardines. Wow, everything arrived piping hot and in a very short time considering how busy they were. Fantastic fish at fabulous prices. If you love fresh fish and seafood then there’s only one place to go in Estepona, here.
