I really like El Descaro and have eaten here many times. The food is good and is alway presented well. They offer lots of tapas and some bigger plates too. Las Costillas (Ribs) are particularly good!

ℹ️ El Descaro opening hours are dependant on the weather. On a sunny day it’s a great place to site outside and enjoy the food and drinks however if the weather is bad they may not be open.

El Descaro is one of my favorites and I visit it regularly.

I especially enjoy the tapas which are a little bit different from the usual things you’ll find in Estepona – it’s a good place to go if you fancy a change from La Sureña.

Set on the beautiful Plaza de las Flores it’s a very pleasant place to spend time although the tables and chairs could be spaced out a little more.

Martin the head waiter is always friendly and helpful when I visit.

It lives up to its name, it’s outrageous. I went to sit at a table, and a waiter approached me and told me I couldn’t sit there, that it was only for eating, and that if I wanted a drink I had to go to another table outside the plaza. I hadn’t even had time to sit down, much less say whether I was going to eat or not.

Yesterday we went there with a big group, 35 people. We were surprised by the amount of tapas we received, for 15 € per person. All the different tapas were quite tasty, albóndigas, chicken in curry sauce, pil pil and many more. Staff was really friendly, and the location was at a convenient spot in town.

Don’t be fooled by the good reviews. They certainly live up to their name: €40 for two people for not just bad food, but awful… We ordered braised pork cheeks (if you can even call them that), which were chunks of meat in a translucent, tasteless, and cold broth (similar to dirty water). We also ordered meatballs in almond sauce, but the meatballs were raw inside. I couldn’t even identify what the sauce was made of (it had absolutely no almond flavor) and it looked like it had curdled. The only decent thing was the potatoes with aioli, and that was only because they were frozen and the aioli was from a jar…

The Food

The food at El Descaro is very good. It’s always well presented and tastes good too.

Prices are fairly expensive, but you are on the main square in Estepona.

The service matches the food in quality especially Martin who always welcomes me like and old friend.

The Location

Situated on one of the best squares in Estepona El Descaro is a delightful place to spend time when the weather is fine.

They have a lot of tables in the middle of the square, probably too many in my opinion as it can feel a little squashed.
