I really like El Descaro and have eaten here many times. The food is good and is alway presented well. They offer lots of tapas and some bigger plates too. Las Costillas (Ribs) are particularly good!

ℹ️ El Descaro opening hours are dependant on the weather. On a sunny day it’s a great place to site outside and enjoy the food and drinks however if the weather is bad they may not be open.

🌧️ There is some inside space at El Descaro however they will probably be closed if the weather is bad.

El Descaro is one of my favorites and I visit it regularly.

I especially enjoy the tapas which are a little bit different from the usual things you’ll find in Estepona – it’s a good place to go if you fancy a change from La Sureña.

Set on the beautiful Plaza de las Flores it’s a very pleasant place to spend time although the tables and chairs could be spaced out a little more.

Martin the head waiter is always friendly and helpful when I visit.

Head waiter is a problem! My wife and I went for cocktails and tapas in early Novemeber. The waitress and assistant (busboy?) couldn’t have been nicer. We were having a great time until there was a misunderstanding about which tapas we ordered. They brought 3 tapas (we only ordered 2 – they brought 1 that we ordered and 2 that we didn’t). The “head waiter” (a tall guy with dark hair and down vest) came over and had a really bad attitude. It was their mistake and it was no big deal to us, but he was nasty, glowering at us, and lacked any modicum of graciousness or pleasantry. He ruined what was otherwise a pleasant experience (especially conversing in Spanish with the lovely waitress). Frankly we were shocked at his treatment of us. I now see that other guests had a similar experience (see other reviews). To the owner (who hopefully is not this guy) – please train this guy in customer relations! The waitress and busboy were delightful.

The waiter Martin was very kind and very friendly, we laughed with him and he was very attentive. This review is in gratitude to him because the food was a disappointment. We ordered a picky montadito in which there was only cheese and meat in the absence of jam and crunchy onion, the bao bread did not have a single drop of salmorejo and the cheek montadito was with frozen meat. A shame being a local in such a good area. I doubt I will return

The Food

The food at El Descaro is very good. It’s always well presented and tastes good too.

Prices are fairly expensive, but you are on the main square in Estepona.

The service matches the food in quality especially Martin who always welcomes me like and old friend.

The Location

Situated on one of the best squares in Estepona El Descaro is a delightful place to spend time when the weather is fine.

They have a lot of tables in the middle of the square, probably too many in my opinion as it can feel a little squashed.

Be prepared for some music too as it’s a very popular place for buskers to perform.
